Me and the fiddle
Teaching in The German School in London during the week in the mid 90s I joined classes teaching Irish fiddle tunes at Cecil Sharp House in Camden London led by Peter Cooper.
It couldn’t have been a more central place to be introduced to an overwhelming tradition that excited me, although the pure learning turned out to be very difficult. The feeling not ever to be able to be in any way authentic led me to give this up.
Very near to where I now live in Shropshire on the border to Wales I discovered traditional folk music sessions in a pub and joined in. These sessions still take place at The Cross Keys (The Docks) in Selattyn.
Only recently I gave this up because I simply didn’t have enough time to learn any more tunes.
My feeling that I should stick to and develop myself with my own playing and improvisations as much as I can and give it time brought me back to my Studio. I find it relaxing to play without any pressure next to my art related work and my workshops.
